Our House Treasures…

bringing new life to old books!

Every true reader could, even if not one new book were published,

spend decades and centuries studying on, fighting on,

continuing to rejoice in the treasure of those already at hand.

–Hermann Hesse, 1930 Essay “The Magic of the Book”

Our House Treasures is bringing new life to old books!  We create and publish eBooks out of a desire to give new life to vintage materials.  More importantly, we help ensure future generations have access to books no longer in print today.

Author Hermann Hesse wrote his 1930 Essay decades before radio or film were readily available and the internet ever existed.  Hesse felt that no matter how much technology may progress, a deep desire to read would remain in each of us.  He stated:  “We need not fear a future of the elimination of the book.  On the contrary, the more that certain needs for entertainment and education are satisfied through other inventions, the more the book will win back in dignity and authority.”

Our House Treasures doesn’t worry about elimination of out-of-print books.  We rejuvenate them!   Technology now provides us a way to digitally preserve them all.  As a result, each book we publish is accessible in enhanced formats for eReaders.  In addition, OHT’s conversion process ensures preserving the original “dignity and authority” of each book.

What does that mean?
    • First, the majority of Our House Treasures’ publications are in the public domain.  Some books required OHT obtaining copyright/publishing rights.
    • Second, OCR is performed on each book.  We offer more than a simple scanned copy.  This escalates the reader’s experience and ensures there is no damage to the consistency of each original iconic storyline.  Learn more about Our Process.
    • Further, OHT diligently preserves the integrity of each original work.  Consequently, we maintain authentic grammar and spelling.
    • Our House Treasures recognizes various perspectives of the era in which each work was written.  Similarly, we honor the vernacular of each corresponding time period.  To clarify, some books may contain certain words, phrases or images that Our House Treasures does not condone using in our current world.    We believe that what might be learned from these classic books can help battle against ignorance and lack of knowledge of certain historical subject material.  That is one of many reasons these classics are so valuable to us all.

It is Our House Treasures’ hope that you read these classic works, appreciate them and, if necessary, help ensure they remain available for future generations.

Thank you &

Modern life will pull you toward so many distractions.
Push them away for books, for the love of ideas,
for constant friends who will share their truths…
Immerse yourself in worlds created and understood
by the author’s own immersion
