Treves was a prominent British surgeon and expert in anatomy during the Victorian and Edwardian times.  Learn more about him HERE.  In the late 1800s, he was introduced to Joseph Merrick, more commonly known as “the Elephant Man.”  They developed a close friendship. Treves is also renowned for his treatment of appendicitis and is credited with saving the life of King Edward VII in 1902.   (
